Small online business owners have tough decisions to make regarding their website marketing strategies. I started as a small business owner myself; in fact my website still falls in that category.
I know how difficult it is when you cannot afford to hire quality help. Your website isn’t generating that much of an income and it is hard to invest in the beginning. You must be thinking and correctly so, that a website can never get big without proper marketing.
I have good news for you; you do not have to spend a hefty chunk of your cash to market your website. Arguably the cheapest yet the most effective way to make your website successful is through search engine optimization.
Here are 5 lesser known search engine optimization techniques that will promote your small business website effectively:
1. Keyword rich page title
The title for each page is very important. Write your title in rich keywords. Think about the keywords that are most related to your website. Then think from a visitor’s point of view that which keywords is he likely to use to look you up. Try not to ad filler words such as “and” “of” “the” etc. The page title will come out hyperlinked on a search engine when somebody looks up your page.
2. META tag description
META tag is a small description appearing in search engines. The META tag you write should contain a small description which should be less than 255 words (however, Google shows the first 60). The description should contain primary keywords and do not use keywords in META tags that are not in the content.
3. Keywords in headers
The headers of your content (H1, H2 etc) should contain keywords. Now days some developers do not use H1 tags but make sure that you do. Keywords should be inserted in two three headers at least. Filler words do not harm search engine ranking in this section.
4. Make first paragraph of body text keyword rich
Try to use the keywords in the beginning of first line of your first paragraph. Nevertheless, make your first paragraph keyword rich. But don’t overdo it. Just write down normal content and make sure that your keyword appears twice or thrice in that.
5. Hyperlink the keywords
Search engines focus on little things regarding keywords on your page. If the keywords are hyperlinked in your body text, the search engines assumes it to be of importance. Link the relevant web pages to the keywords. This tells Google or other search engines that the page you’re linking to should rank for the link anchor text you’re using.
It’s little things like this that will help boost your search engine rankings and increase your targeted traffic. The more targeted traffic you have the more money you can make!
